Within the COBRA enrollment editor you have the option to Elect COBRA coverage for an employee or their eligible dependents. There are two date fields that can be entered:
1. Paid Through: Refers to the date the employee has paid the cobra premium through OR the date which the PQB is eligible through (usually the last day COBRA is eligible is entered as best practice to alleviate the admin associated with updating this date on recurring monthly basis).
The system will not allow a dependent to have a paid through date greater than the employee. If the employees COBRA coverage has ended and you need to extend the paid through date for a dependent, first end the employees coverage. That will then allow you to enter a paid through date that is greater than the employee.
Note! You will not be able to enter a paid through date that is greater than the eligible end date. You will first need to update the eligible end date and then you can extend the paid through date.
To do this:
1. You first need to elect the plan by entering a paid through date. Any date will work. You will be able to change it after step 2.
2. After you have elected COBRA, there will be a blue "Modify" link next to the benefit plan name. This link will allow you to edit the plan eligible end. After you have updated that then you can go back and extend the paid through date.
2. Coverage Ended: Refers to the employees' last date of COBRA coverage. If the employee ends COBRA coverage early (due to death, non-payment, or a voluntary cancellation), enter the date coverage ends. This is important if you are using the EDI 834 file feeds or Carrier EN-Exchange and have COBRA included on the files.
